Definition of Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC)

Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) is referred to a trend through which, employees are encouraged or allowed to utilize public or private third party cloud services – in performing some or part of their job roles. BYOC enables the interaction and usage of cloud services within a certain job task or business process.

Brief Description of Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC)
BYOC generally focus on cloud based IT services that are owned and used by employees. The primary objective behind an organization’s affirmation towards BYOC is to reduce capital and operational costs associated with paid IT services. The BYOC concept encourages employees to their personally owned freely available cloud services as an alternate.  These include services such as cloud storage, collaboration and basic productivity applications that are available or bundled with common consumer cloud solutions. For example, Google’s e-mail services provide cloud storage drive that can be used to store, share and collaborate on documents and data within the organization. However, being owned by employee and hosted by the service provider, these services are relatively beyond the control of an organization.
